Your Individualized Professional
Skills Development Plan

The IsoSiM program builds customized Professional Skills Development plans for each student to identify, develop and strengthen the professional and personal skills needed to complement their education and enhance their career.

Professional Skills Development plans are individually tailored and developed through a four-step framework of identifying, planning, doing, and reviewing. Working closely with each individual, we tailor every plan to the traits, interests, skills, values, and long-term goals of each student.

Multiple Skill Acquisition Opportunities

Your Professional Skills Development plan will see you acquiring and strengthening your skills using a variety of means, including seminars, workshops, and summer schools organized by IsoSiM or in collaboration with the Graduate School at UBC. Students can request to be paired with a mentor to assist them in different activities.

We strongly encourage students to also participate in the Mitacs STEP program, which offers free professional skills development workshops to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows registered at a Canadian university.
